The Art of Clinical Supervision: Harnessing Your Clinical Supervision Superpowers

Course Description

How do we cultivate resilient clinicians prepared for the rigors of real-world practice? Clinical supervision is often shrouded in ambiguity, leaving many speech language pathologists (SLPs) puzzled about best practices in this area. It is necessary that SLPs are provided with a comprehensive understanding of the essential knowledge and skills necessary for effective clinical supervision. As clinical supervision constitutes a pivotal responsibility for SLPs, it is crucial that SLPs who are in supervisory roles feel more confident and empowered in their ability to provide effective guidance. This training will provide SLPs with knowledge regarding clinical supervision and practical strategies that can be incorporated immediately into clinical practice. This training will cover models of supervision, methods of delivering feedback, levels of clinical supervision, developing professionalism, developing collaborative skills, and the integration of culturally responsive practices.

Course Learner outcomes

The learner will be able to…

1.      Identify 3 key components of effective clinical supervision including supervision models, feedback delivery methods, and levels of clinical supervision.

2.      Describe 3 ways to modify their current clinical supervision practices by integrating foundational knowledge and practical skills gained in this course.

3.      Evaluate the impact of culturally responsive practices on clinical supervision effectiveness and develop strategies for their integration into supervisory roles.
