Jamie D. Fisher, PhD, ccc-slp

Jamie D. Fisher, PhD, CCC-SLP is a speech-language pathologist (SLP), endoscopist, and clinical educator with over 15 years of experience in both medical and academic settings. She is the owner of Nashville Speech & Swallowing Specialists, PLLC, where she specializes in speech, language, dysphagia, and Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), and Augmentative and Alternative Communication. Dr. Fisher earned her PhD in Speech-Language Pathology from Vanderbilt University and is licensed in multiple states, with experience working in acute care hospitals, sub-acute care facilities, and rehabilitation centers across the country. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Fisher has served as a Clinical Supervisor in these settings, mentoring supervisee in managing medically complex communication and dysphagia cases.

As a Clinical Supervisor, Dr. Fisher focuses on fostering the professional development of clinicians by providing guidance in both diagnostic evaluation and therapeutic interventions for communication and swallowing. She integrates evidence-based practices into her supervision, ensuring that supervisees develop the clinical competence and confidence needed to deliver high-quality care. Dr. Fisher is also a certified trainer in FEES, where she supervises and educates clinicians on advanced swallowing assessments, helping to improve their diagnostic and treatment skills. Her commitment to clinical education extends beyond her clinical practice, as she currently serves as an adjunct professor at Nova Southeastern University where she teaches a Doctoral-level course on Clinical Supervision.

In addition to her teaching and clinical supervision roles, Dr. Fisher is the creator and director of the Preparing SLPs for Tracheostomy and Ventilator Patient Care Training Course, an innovative program designed to enhance the skills of SLPs working with complex patient populations. She has also contributed to the education of future speech-language pathologists as a clinical lecturer and adjunct faculty at several universities, including Middle Tennessee State University, University of Maryland-College Park, Jackson State University, Xavier University of Louisiana, University of Louisiana Monroe, and the University of Georgia. Throughout her career, Dr. Fisher has been committed to advancing clinical education and supervision, ensuring that both new and experienced clinicians are equipped to deliver the best possible care to their patients.

Empowering Medical SLPs: Building Effective Skills for Clinical Supervision in Healthcare Settings

Course Description

This course is designed specifically for Speech-Language-Swallowing Pathologists (SLPs) working in medical settings who are seeking to enhance their clinical supervision skills. As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, effective clinical supervision is critical for ensuring high-quality patient care and fostering the professional growth of supervisees. This session will provide an in-depth exploration of key supervision models, supervision levels, and strategies tailored to the unique needs of the Medical SLP and their supervisees. Participants will learn how to integrate evidence-based supervision practices into their medical settings, modify existing supervisory approaches, and develop the tools necessary to continuously assess and improve their supervisory effectiveness. An additional emphasis will be placed on navigating the challenges of supervising today’s cohort of medical supervisees, addressing both practical and interpersonal considerations to promote a supportive, productive, and developmentally rich supervisory process.

Course Learner outcomes

The learner will be able to…

1) Identify core components of effective clinical supervision, including models and levels of supervision specific to the medical field.

2) Describe ways to modify current supervision practices to integrate foundational knowledge and new strategies for improved outcomes in the medical setting.

3) Integrate methods for evaluating and enhancing their clinical supervision practices, ensuring ongoing professional development and growth for both themselves and their supervisees in the medical setting.

This training is offered for 0.2 ASHA CEUs / 2 Professional Development Hours

Course Completion Requirement: Participants are expected to be present for the entire course and complete the self-reflection/assessment for satisfactory course completion and to be reported for ASHA CEUs. Individuals who are not present for the full course will not receive completion certificate and ASHA CEUs. No partial credit will be provided

Course Cancellation Policy: No refunds of online payment processing/administration fee. 100% of registration fee will be refunded if cancellation is received prior to February 1, 2025. 50% of registration fee will be refunded if cancellation is received February 1 - February 15, 2025. No refunds if cancelled on February 15, 2025 and thereafter. Cancellation must be submitted in writing via email to info@nashvillespeechandswallowing.com. All refunds returned following course date. If course is cancelled by Nashville Speech & Swallowing Specialists, PLLC participants will receive a refund of registration fees.
